My laptop, with built-in wireless card, for comparison, always gets five bars in the same location. I use it on a Dell desktop to pick up my Linksys wireless router system in the next room. My Linksys wireless USB adapter works pretty well, except that it is a little weak in picking up a signal. That said, the adapter has no problem acquiring the signal and the connection has to be repaired only once in a while. I am surprised that it only gets four out of five bars on the signal strength. My roommate also uses one, and has the same problem. All in all, I would say, for a Linksys product, this card should function a little better. But I am happy with it and will stick with it.
As far as I can say. I have been using this product for about a year now and it works flawlessly(with the windows vista/xp configuration software). I would rate it with less stars for the product software but i am not rating the software. It connects everyday at 54mbps 100% and my router(linksys wrt54gs) is at least 20 feet away and in a different room. All in all a great wifi adapter.
Again another lie. I am soooooo ticked off. The first one that I bought was the Wireless N adapter that Linksys (the box) said was backwards compatible. Then I bought this one. I am so furious, this is a complete disrespect of my time as a customer. I could never get it to work.
When I opened the box there was a paper that said I needed to download the Vista drivers from the website, but there were no Vista drivers on the website, only XP. This is my second adapter. The box says it is "VISTA CERTIFIED" Baloney. I finally called Linksys and the rep told me that it was not backwards compatible. "The box is wrong". I spent 3-4 hours messing with the stupid thing, until I finally contacted a rep via chat and they told me that the Vista drivers were not available.
I will never buy a linksys product again.
Before I begin, let me tell you that I wanted EASY to use and that is what I got. So here I am buying two more.do I recommmend them. They work great when they are working. Now let me also add that I have now gone through FOUR of these on two pc's. The key would be EASY TO USE and SPEED. Two for each in a bit over a year. These adapters are as easy as plug and play for those of us that are tech challenged. Yes, if you don't mind that you will be back out buying another one in less than a year.
I am here now looking for more. Although I hesitate to buy the same exact thing, I do love the simplicity and I like the speed in which they function until they just die one day and you are left scrambling for internet life. If someone could recommend something similar with a longer life span, I'd be happy to give it a try.
I bought this for my son's computer (he plays games online), worrying that speed would be an issue.boy, was I wrong. Also, it couldn't possibly be easier to set up. I highly recommend this product.
